Adding a Border to an Octagonal Quilt
Quilts come in all shapes and sizes, but one of the more popular shapes for a quilt is the octagonal quilt. Here at Embroidery Weekly, we love making octagonal quilts. Once your octagonal quilted upper is done, the next thing you want to do is add on a lovely border. This can be quite confusing when it comes to adding on a border to an octagonal quilt, especially if you want a border that looks continuous around the quilt. We received several e-mails asking us just how did we do this for our Christmas Cardinal Quilt.
Our ever popular Quilted Christmas Cardinal Quilt, is an octagonal quilt with a lovely continuous border. The border is added in such a way that each piece looks as if it almost “flows” into each other.

We decided to make this really easy tutorial to show you exactly how to add a border to an octagonal quilt. There are lots of photos showing each and every step we took when adding on the border. The instructions are in pdf, so just download it and open it using Adobe Reader.
Once you have tried this and mastered this method, I am sure you will love making octagonal quilts with borders, as much as we do.
