Sew and Turn QAYG Block 4
The fourth block in our series of Sew and Turn Applique Blocks. A piece of a country garden! The Sew and Turn technique creates a lovely “puffy” applique design very much like the traditional hand applique. A decorative stitch is used to hold the applique pieces in place. I used a variety of small bits of matching purple quilters cotton to create the iris style flowers, and striped green for the leaves. The block is also quilted and lined in the hoop to make this a Quit As You Go Block. This Sew and Turn method uses small amounts of quilters cotton, making this technique ideal to use up left over small bits of fabric. I used a small bamboo knitting needle to help with turning the applique pieces. Some pieces might be a little small, but with a little patience, a beautiful block is created.
