Sew and Turn Applique QAYG Block 3
The third block in our series of Sew and Turn Applique Blocks. Some more country delight! The Sew and Turn technique creates a lovely “puffy” applique design very much like the traditional hand applique. A decorative stitch is used to hold the applique pieces in place. I used a variety of small bits of matching blue quilters cotton to create the tulip style flowers, a water stained green for the leaf and gold speckled red for the heart. The block is also quilted and lined in the hoop to make this a Quit As You Go Block. This Sew and Turn method uses small amounts of quilters cotton, making this technique ideal to use up left over small bits of fabric. I used a small bamboo knitting needle to help with turning the applique pieces. Some pieces might be a little small, but with a little patience, a beautiful block is created.
Block sizes in this design: 6×6, 7×7 and 8×8
Please have a look at the instructions for the full photo lesson and be sure to have a look at the color chart to see the actual size of each block.
